iowaguy Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 What is a "typical" TA load? TA for 1 class? 2 classes? Thanks in advance! 1FJG and Conscia Fati 1 1
process chemist Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 At my school typical is 3 lab sections with teaching and grading responsibilities.
rising_star Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 In my department, one class if you're teaching as instructor of record. Varies if you're just grading. If you're leading discussion sections or labs, then it's the equivalent of 4 hours/week with those students.
Guest ||| Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Its very tough to say as it will vary from university to university, department to department, class to class, and class section to class section. Sometimes you are very involved in teaching and do lectures, sometimes you run labs and host discussions, sometimes you mark essays and need them to fit on a curve, and sometimes all you do is twice a semester, stand by a scantron machine waiting for results. There is tremendous variation, and itd be best to speak with the class whom you are taing for, and ask on their expectations.
RxPhD Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 We don't have to teach classes if we don't want to. We give a few lectures to the PharmD students here and there. On occasion, we'll proctor their stats and research methods exams.
