Can anyone find this info? It's a bit expensive, but I'm a conversion student- if the placement record is strong, it might well be worth it. The only thing I've found is their PhD placement record, which isn't very helpful

Did you email their DGS/office for it?  Most of the time they are the people to talk to.

Haven't yet. Was planning on waiting till I heard a response before going that route, was just wondering if anyone had any helpful links.

Got a reply earlier today. Apparently they don't keep the info, which is...troublesome. To paraphrase- most students do not go on to pursue a doctoral degree, and thus a placement record is unnecessary. Despite this, it is an excellent school, and will help your doctoral aspirations.

Not sure what to make of this. If most students there aren't going for a PhD eventually, it seems the school won't have feeder connections to others and won't help one's career. On the other hand, one of the best phil departments in the UK...anyone have any thoughts/advice/anecdotal info to offer?

This is just conjecture, but is it easier to make decent money teaching with just a Masters in philosophy in England?

Lok,  do you have any admissions to schools with a stated purpose of getting into grad school.  There still are quite a few programs out there designed for personal fulfillment or for non-philosophers to get some training in philosophy (I know Minnesota's is one).

I would worry about the program not being designed to place into PhD programs.  The terminal MA's that do focus on placement will likely have a lot more resources to help you get in, but I don't think the other programs would HURT of course.

Hi! I'm currently a student on the MA. It's a very well-populated MA, and a fair few students choose not to go onto a PhD afterwards (many of which are conversion students). However, the people I know on the course who have chosen to make PhD applications have generally been successful. It's anecdotal but this year myself and others have gotten places on the Oxford BPhil and DPhil as well as receiving PhD offers with full scholarships. So, I wouldn't let the lack of placement info put you off: the department makes an effort to support people who want to go onto further study (putting on pre-application meetings, etc).

Heliolithic: Excellent! Thanks for the info, that's exactly what I was looking for. Nice to hear some good news.

And MKE; no, unfortunately I don't. Not too surprising  all things considered- there were some large obvious holes in my application. I'm a conversion student (literature to philosophy) and didn't have recs from philosophy professors. I've spent the last year working on these problems, but at the time of applying this round I only had three phil classes on my transcripts. Went for it anyways- just to see what would happen, really. I might well just wait till next year, when my application will be much (much much) stronger, but King's is showing interest, so I thought I would ask in case I have a choice to make. It's been a while since I heard from them last, so I'm not to hopeful anymore, but time will tell.

Thanks all. Appreciate it
