CVanHise Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I was invited to visit my dream school a month ago. During my visit, the POI and I discussed in detail the project he/she would like me to work on. I was presented with two funding options and left campus feeling that an acceptance was on the way. In response to a follow-up e-mail, the POI said that my name was being recommended for admission and just needed to pass through the admissions committees. Through no fault of the POI, my name did not actually reach the committee until a little more than a week ago. I would like to assume that the rest of the process is just a formality, but I have a low GPA compared to most admitted students. Has anyone been in a similar situation and received a rejection? Would a professional e-mail to the grad admissions office benefit me?
tarrman Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 How low is 'low'? I wouldn't be too concerned about it, as it sounds like the school was very impressed with your application.
iowaguy Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 How exactly do you think a "professional" email to the admissions office would benefit you? I would just wait it out. If your app just hit the adcom 1 week ago, they probably haven't made a decision yet...
Rogue856 Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 For what it's worth I was brought in for a campus visit, met my potential PhD advisor, the department, etc. I was told all about funding packages and in an e-mail a few days after the visit my POI said he was "looking forward to seeing my on campus in the fall." After all that it took 1.5 months to get a formal offer. I would not worry if i were you. Also, for what it's worth, my GPA overall is comparatively low as well.
Guest hopefulfool Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I am waiting for news from the school I interviewed at and the wait is killing me. I keep on going over things in my head that I could have done wrong in the interview.
