bk1 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I heard that I must let the grad program know by Apr. 15 (that is the deadline for all schools in the US, no?) However, one of my programs requires an interview on Apr. 26. So, the 15th cannot be the deadline? What are your thoughts?
boneh3ad Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I have come across this too and it confuses me. A lot say April 15th, yet a couple of my programs have said that they make decisions on a rolling basis THROUGH the month of April. WTF Mate?!

Only schools that are members of the council of graduate schools have to adhere to the April 15th date for funded offers. If they aren't a member, they can set any response date they like. You need to find out from each school when they want to hear, and ask for extensions from the ones that want to hear sooner if the dates don't seem to work. Many schools are quite willing to give extensions.
kdilks Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I believe the resolution only says they can't force you to make a decision before April 15th. There's nothing that says they can't give you more time, or that they can't accept people past April 15th.

ItsBrainScience Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 A large percentage of schools abide by the April 15th deadline. If it says give a response by April 15th, it means exactly what it says. If it notifies you of a date any other than April 15th, respond by that specified date. If however there is no specified date, call the department to get a specific date to reduce jeopardizing your chances of them dismissing your application because you did not abide by the rules and respond on a specific date.
Reinventing Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Weird, one of my schools didn't give me funding, but still wants me to accept by April 15th. I guess I have another month to try to come up with something. Can't say yes without at least an assistantship.
