Hey CUNY Art History admits!  Congrats! Since there are apparently only eight of us this year, I figured I would start a thread so we can share ideas/thoughts/concerns.  CUNY seems to be rising in all facets and it's an exciting time to go there.

Hi! I'm a Philosophy student and I'm interested in the Ph.D. program in Art History at CUNY, as my AOI is aesthetics. Could you tell me which do you think is the profile of a student that is admitted here? Do I have any chances as a Philosophy student? Is this program (as far as you can tell, of course) only historical or more theoretical (as it is actually described in the webpage)?

Thanks!!

Hi Abilap,

Congratulations! I was admitted, but have accepted another offer, and will be declining.  It's a great program and I know people who have done great work there, so I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks mrb1145.  Where are you heading to instead?

Heading to UCLA. My partner and I were both admitted, and she didn't apply to schools in NYC, so in the end CUNY didn't get much consideration, but I have a lot of respect for that program!

Just accepted my offer! Had a tough choice between some great programs, but like you said the CUNY program is really on the rise and it is an exciting time to join. It is really set to become one of the top programs in modern and contemporary art in the country, especially with some new hires that are happening soon.

I accepted last week as well!  I hadn't heard of new hires, that is very interesting!  Which fields exactly is CUNY hiring for?

Congratulations CUNY GC admits!

Did any of you happen to hear how many applications the department receieved this year?  If not, does anyone have a sense for how many they typically receive?

They took 8 people this year.  They've started accepting only funded students (like many other programs recently).
