phmhjh85 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I was wondering if any one has any info regarding the MHS in Mental health at Bloomberg. I noticed somebody posted an acceptance early this month. I contacted the department yesterday and the contact was very friendly and responded immediately that she will look into my status and let me know "today" -- which obviously didnot happen- and that decisions are usually made in 2 weeks after reaching the department- I submitted the app Feb 22nd and was completed in a few days I am really worried that this is a bad sign. JH is my dream school and I applied to both the FT MPH and MHS in mental health and so far I have no feedback whatsoever from them or the other four schools I applied to - mostly through Fulbright but that is a whole other story. Does that mean I am rejected ? They extended the deadline three months which propably means they don't have that much applicants or at least qualified ones! If any one has an experience with the program or applied to I would appreciate any insight. BTW my stats are uGPA: 4.0 (ECE evaluation) MBBch - intenational medical degree Grad GPA : 4.0 ( ECE ev) MPH ( only first 12 credit hours) GRE 164 (93)/161 (83)/ 5.0 (92) TOEFL: 117 Other relevant info: Teaching assistant, Lots of volunteer work - never full time- , researcher at a WHO -funded project, 2 month clerckship at GWU, CPHQ and part-time quality professional, very prestigious research grant in Italy - Child Neuropsych research, Fulbright grantee, RA at several projects but never published
Kayla123 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Nostalgia-- I applied an entire month earlier than you to JHSPH, for an MHS in Environmental Health, and heard back... yesterday. I don't know if they just get a ton of applicants, or what, but I wouldn't freak out about it just yet. also, I applied and was accepted with a 3.2 for undergrad. And I have way less work experience lol. You seem way more qualified.

Congrats on your acceptances . and Thanks for the reassurance .I know it is too soon for my neurosis to Show that much : ) But actually I have been at this process for So long . (started working on fulbright application Feb 2012 !!! ) And I finished the MPH app at JH Dec . 26th-but Was completed February 11th (due to delayed transcript evaluation) It just seems everybody have received some kind of News by Now and I still don't know which Continent I will be living in in a few Months !!
Kayla123 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 that's rough I was pulling my hair out just because I didn't know which state I'd be in. it really seems like every week counts with hearing back from schools. I had a transcript delay going to SOPHAS, which was how I was applying to 5 schools, so that pushed everything back almost a month. Have you tried calling the admissions dept? Not to ask whether you're accepted or not, but just to see when they expect to let you know by. I called a few times and one lady said that she'd see if she could ask the director to consider my application sooner rather than later (I told her I had heard back from almost every other school and was trying to make a decision)

I called a few times and one lady said that she'd see if she could ask the director to consider my application sooner rather than later (I told her I had heard back from almost every other school and was trying to make a decision) Another one of the catches with the fulbright system is that I cannot contact any department they applied to, and I have to wait for thr IIE to have all the decisions back and decide where I would go before notifying me However, am allowed to apply to 2 programs on my own -in my case the MHS at JH and HBHE at UNC- so those I can contact like I mentioned earlier, and I also continously check the online app for the other school if I know they might post results there , but eventually it is there call ( UNC are incredibly frustrating , I emailed like 4 times in the past month with different inquiries to no avail and I tried calling once but the representative was out of the office, and they had their admitted students day on the 23rd I think so I am beginning to lose hope. I think I will need therapy after all of this is over. The only thing keeping my sanity intact currently is this forum and the SDN or contributing to my OCD
Kayla123 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 UNC hasn't gotten back to me either! I'd like to hear back from them ASAP... I have to make my decision in less than 2 weeks! that's not very much time to adequately weigh pros/cons of each school and get in touch with professors about research. they're the only school I haven't heard back from and I think the only school I'd consider saying "no" to Hopkins for.
phmhjh85 Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 Finally heard thank god it was an acceptance. It is my first and I am super excited

veebrij15456 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Mental health describes a level of psychological well-being, or an absence of a mental disorder. From the perspective of 'positive psychology' or 'holism', mental health may include an individual's ability to enjoy life, and create a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience.[1] Mental health can also be defined as an expression of emotions, and as signifying a successful adaptation to a range of demands. ---------------------------------------- WATER FILTER REVIEWS AND INFORMATION MarieCRL and phmhjh85 2
