taypwyrm Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) I am curious, who is doing their MFA straight from their undergrad? Edited April 2, 2013 by taypwyrm
doctorawho Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I am. I don't even have a BFA but I figured I'd give it a shot. I've really built up my commercial portfolio the past 4 years, have rec letters from professors, and I've worked in studios and ad agencies. Hopefully that's good enough (applying for illustration). Are you applying straight from your undergrad?
herki Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) I did. Throughout my last year of undergrad, I had already been planning on applying to grad schools, and talked to the professors who wound up being my recommenders about it. I think that helped, since they were expecting me to ask them for letters and everything. It also helped that I did a good job documenting my work from the start, and that all my work has been cohesive. Some of my classmates were bouncing across styles and approaches up until their senior shows. EDIT: I should clarify that I waited a year before applying. I didn't want to try and put together applications while rushing to also get my senior show put together. I haven't done a whole ton since graduating, besides work on applications, so I'd still say I'm applying straight out of undergrad. Edited April 3, 2013 by herki
philo1984 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) I'll be graduating this spring, and threw my hat in the ring for admission next fall. My portfolio was a little light, but my professors encouraged me to take a shot. Even if nothing pans out for me this year I learned a TON during the process and will be better prepared for round two. Small edit needed... I just got a call from Madison and was accepted. Will wait on financial aid package...but will likely be going. Edited April 3, 2013 by philo1984
kwonberry Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 (edited) I am. Finishing up my BFA in a few months. I took time off from school between my sophomore/junior years and felt my work and thinking was strong enough to warrant the extra pain that this whole process added to an already stressful senior thesis year. Ren Adams Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I did, but I'm already a non-traditional student. I have a BA in English from UC Berkeley and worked for 10 years before returning to get a BFA in 2009. I am going straight to an MFA program, though. I graduated with the BFA in Fall of 2012. My spring semester "off" was spent dealing with grad apps. :-)
