University of Georgia (UGA) Fall 2013

Hi there! Didn't see any thread for UGA yet, so I thought I'd start one so anyone heading to Athens next Fall and interested in meeting others can introduce themselves!  

 

I guess I'll begin: I'm starting in the Clinical Psychology PhD program in August. (Anyone also joining that program, definitely PM me! I'd love to talk!) I'm graduating from Auburn this May and heading back to my home-state of GA after four years in Alabama - not something I expected when this whole application process began, but everything seems to work out for the best in the end).

 

Side note: I was in Athens last weekend apartment-hunting and think I finally found one - but also toured/drove through a bunch of other complexes, so if anyone has any questions about one, I don't mind sharing my first impressions! Sometimes it's nice just to get a rough feel of a place. I found apartment-ratings.com to be pretty accurate and the Athens thread in the City Guide sub-forum super useful, btw!

Hey! I'm going to UGA this fall for their Genetics PhD program.  Good to see a thread was started!  What were some good apartment complexes you found?

I will be applying to UGA for a marine science phd this winter, and I'm curious about the funding in case I get admission. I guess the situation varies from faculty to faculty, and case to case, but I'd still be interested in hearing what kind of funding are you getting: amount, duration, is it only for the academic year (= 9 months) or does it extend also to the summer months?

I am interviewing for their Cellular Biology program Feb '14. In regards to housing, if I am accepted, I will be living off campus. I'm from Brooklyn so I am gagging at how cheap housing is down there. Most of the listings I've seen (via Zillow) are on/near bus routes, which is cool bc I don't have a car. Mass transit looks decent enough. (I just have to keep in mind that it's not 24hrs like in NYC). I plan on getting my license/purchasing a car within a year or so after I matriculate. So how do you guys like it so far??
