ohsoquiet Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Hello! I have currently been made 3 offers, one of them (my number 1 choice) is actually a recommendation that my application be accepted by the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies office, which I have heard generally means I am accepted BUT I have heard that every once in a while GPS decides not to accept the applicant. In addition, I have just been asked for an interview at another school that I am also very interested in. My 2 guaranteed offers have a deadline for which I have to respond (one of them already passed, eek! I know this department though, I did my MA there). I was wondering what was the most tactful way to ask for an extension? How long is reasonable to ask for? Considering the program I am interviewing with next week will likely not have a final response for me for at least a minimum of 2 weeks (probably longer). Thanks!
cryabroad Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Whoa, two weeks is a very long time,I think you should just tell professor the truth.
biogirl2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Keep in mind that not hearing your decision-- especially if its clear that you have a strong interest in a different program-- means the schools can't offer that funding to other students. I'd be honest and let them know that you want to know all your options before making a decision so you can ensure that you're choosing the program that's the best fit... but be prepared that they might not be willing/able to give you extra time. biotechie 1
