How to introduce/ask for funding via email?

This is always awkward. How to be concise about it, I'm not sure.  I can't just say "give me some money damnit!!"

Unless they've already told you, something like "I'm writing to find out when funding decisions will be made and how I will be notified if I receive an offer?" is fair.
