What is Michigan's reputation, compared to (other) top schools? I'm specifically thinking in terms of classical literature and history (not archaeology etc).

One of my professors received his Ph.D from Michigan and raves about it. According to him, they have really great placement of their graduates. Something to consider is that they use Seligson's method for teaching Greek, so if you've never picked up her "Greek for Reading", I would do so. Her idea of "kernels" is generally not known amongst folks who don't have U Michigan (or Iowa) connections.
