OtterWilde Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) I'm struggling to decide between qualitative sociology and sociocultural anthropology. I received offers from Wisconsin (Soc), Irvine Anthropology and UNC Anthropology. Does anyone have thoughts on these programs? I have a background in Anthropology, but I am interested in studying American behavioral phenomena (hence the new interest in sociology). Does anyone have experience with qualitative research in both anthropology and sociology, and if so, do you perceive a difference in how these disciplines approach the work? Thanks in advance for any advice Edited April 10, 2013 by OtterWilde
nesw4314 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Go to UNC Anthropology. Most prestigious. You can study American behavioral phenomena in that program.
rising_star Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Which field do you want to be in? Do you see yourself teaching intro to anthro or intro to soc? Once you decide, then you can decide about programs. Wisconsin is very well known in sociology and UNC is very well regarded in anthro. I doubt you can go wrong, unless you just can't deal with cold, the funding is massively different, or you really can't figure out which discipline you want to be your home for the next 25 years. amolang 1
