Need advice on master degree

Hi all, 

After receiving bunch of rejection email, I got an admission from Ohio State Univ. However, I am admitted to Master of applied statistics program, which is "to prepare graduate students to enter positions in applied statistics in business, industry, and government".  Since My goal is to advance to Ph.D, I think Master of science degree is better for me. I have emailed the department several times to change master of science instead of master of applied statistics program, but I haven't received any response from OSU. 

I am wondering if Master of applied statistics program will help me to advance to ph.d level. Or should I reapply next year?
