Fulbright Leave Policy - Past Experiences?

I was wondering what past Fulbrighters experiences have been with leave? I applied for and received funding for several research trips to conferences and professional development experiences within the region of my Fulbright but outside of my actual country.  I would like to take actual leave/vacation when my parents come to visit - I was told that I have to request the leave from the embassy and make any time up over 14 days.  I'm wondering how much trouble folks had getting approved for over 14 days for work related research.

 

We're to report trips and make requests to the embassy - are there actual check ups that occur?

A lot of this depends on where you are specifically and what your in-country affiliate does as well. Where I was, there was no Fulbright Commission and the Embassy did not check up on us. But, they could. Also, we could not make up any days, so anything over 14 days meant a reduction in your stipend (aka, you pay them back).
