xeon Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I am doing a PhD in computer science, but I am not happy with the average of my bachelor. I wish that I could find a way to increase my bachelor. Maybe doing another bachelor in Math at the same time as my PhD (as far as I know it is impossible), or find something else. Anyone can help me with this? How can I improve the final average of my bachelor?
fuzzylogician Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 If you're already in a PhD program I assume that means you've already officially finished your BA a while ago. Once it's done, there is nothing you can do to change anything about it, including your grades. If you want higher grades in a BA degree, you'll have to do a second one, but I can't believe you can do a BA in the same topic and at the same institution as you PhD. I wouldn't advise it even if you could, it'd look very odd on your CV and your reason for doing it won't help either. Just let bygones be bygones. You're doing a PhD, your BA grades hardly matter anymore.
sarab Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Your GPA can't be improved once you have finished your degree. You could get a second degree and try to get better grades for that, but this won't change your previous B.A's GPA. Also, it is unnecessary to go backwards and get another B.A when you're already in a PhD program: first, your grades were good enough to get you into the PhD program, and second, the average that matters now is your PhD one. I would recommend focusing on your PhD instead.
nugget Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Maybe your GPA could have been better, but it was good enough to get you into a PhD program so it couldn't have been so bad. Do you think this will somehow hold you back career-wise or in terms of getting more funding/scholarships? Or is simply about having high personal standards and being disappointed about not meeting them? Whatever the reason, it sounds like your time would be better spent focusing on your PhD and letting go of what happened in the past. Put your energy into your dissertation and other pursuits that will help your pursue your professional goals.
msafiri Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 You can't change the GPA on a degree that's already been conferred. And I really don't see why you would want to.
xeon Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 (edited) I think that somehow can hold me back career-wise in the academia, or in terms of getting more funding/scholarships. I hope I am wrong... That is the only reason. But I agree when someone say to just focus on the PhD. Edited July 18, 2013 by xeon
