marquisbey Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 As I'm sure many of you like having intellectual and substantive discussions with people—"big talk" as opposed to "small talk"—I was wondering if any of you lit people would want to start a sort of discussion group. Of course it couldn't be incredibly large, but if anyone is interested trading fb accounts/phone number/emails/etc. to maybe have somewhat regular discussions about interesting topics of our choosing (literary theory, close readings of books, history, any kind of specialty area like gender or race [my specialty areas], etc.) please reply and we'll see if we can make this happen. If you are anything like me (and I think some of you are) the more you learn the more unfit for society you become (more on that later), so let me know if you're interested by replying to this thread or shooting me a PM. Have a great summer!
aGiRlCalLeDApPlE Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I'm interested. I've recently suggested that we start a blog for lit people on gradcafe, but no one seemed interested. A blog would be a good place for discussion, especially that we'll all be in the same boat (preparing for grad school). I hope this works
aGiRlCalLeDApPlE Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Great. 3 people is not that bad to start with. Maybe more will join us later. Who's ready to volunteer to start the blog? I'd recommend wordpress.com What do you think?
ProfLorax Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 The reason people may not be jumping at the opportunity to start a blog or a discussion group is because The Grad Cafe already operates as a virtual community to discuss grad applications, theory, and texts. Why not use the lit/rhet/comp forum right here, which already has an established readership, to post your thoughts and questions and to start discussions?
