Are these GRE scores sufficient for History PhD programs?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I just took the test today, and received a 160 V & a 153 Q. Furthermore, I have a 3.92 GPA from Penn State, University Park and excellent letters of recommendation. Are the scores I received sufficient? Or will they seriously affect my chances?

I'm still trying to get into grad school myself. Still, I believe your scores should be alright. It seems to vary from university to university, but a verbal quant cumulative of 300 is usually the minimum for acceptance. Some schools focus much more on your undergrad grades, experience, etc as well, so I wouldn't worry.

Don't worry about the numbers.  Spend more of your time worrying about your statement of purpose and writing sample.
