Made a preliminary list of Art Education programs, please advise

I'm looking for preferably a program focused on more than just specific needs of art teaching at institutions with a US curriculum (international student here, teaching license for US schools is not what I'm aiming for). As in, it would be good it the program had a broader range than that.

 

Things I plan to do with my education:

--Building sustainable program models for art activities in rural/ unprivileged areas

--greater integration of art teaching in the school curricula/ art as meta-subject for other subjects to bolster student interest

--artwork creation and art appreciation as tools for personal development and critical thinking

--influencing/ reformulating art education policy here

--reinvigorating traditional and indigenous crafts through contemporary art practices and ideas

I've listed the departments as well, does that also give an idea about the general inclinations of the program? (Say, an MA Art Ed. in the dept. of curriculum vs in the dept. of art history).

 

Also, from what I understand so far, an MA / M Ed is preferably better for what I want to do, rather than MS or MAT. Is that so?

 

I'll have to cut back on this list and maybe choose 8 to 10 to apply to.

You've done a lot of research. I don't know much about art ed. programs but one other program you may want to look into is SAIC's low-residency (not sure if low-res is of interest). It's an MFA and they are taking 20-30 people and are hoping to have educators, curators, art historians, as well as artists, apply.

 

It seems like a MA Art Ed is what you are looking for though. Have you asked around in Nepal to see what the most effective and well regarded degree would be for what you want to do? (I think I read elsewhere that you would be returning to your home country after your degree)

Well, I know that a degree with a considerable portion of theoretical study in the visual arts is going to hold up well here, especially considering the fact that I am not aware of anyone in the art community here who has an academic background in visual arts related fields, beyond MFAs. There are some who've done a Masters in Art History but they're non-resident, so I don't suppose that counts. So I practically have an empty stage to cover.

 

I also wonder if it's possible to study art history/ visual culture and take education/ psychology as a minor, could that be a good mix for me? But yeah, all in all MA in Art Education seems the most straightforward route I ought to follow.

 

I wonder if anyone else out there has any experience with this too.
