awads
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to how selective art history masters program were at Georgetown, Pratt, CUNY Hunter, or NYU? I was only an Art History minor and my GPA is alright. GRE scores: 5.5 on analytical writing, 160 (84% were below) for verbal and 151 (45% were below) quantitative. Taking the GRE again this month in hopes of raising the math score. How important is the math score for an art history program?
Lamantin
How important is math to art history? I wouldn't retake the GRE for a math score, though there's certainly room for improvement on the verbal score. Keep in mind that the GRE won't get you in anywhere, it will only keep you out, but at scores likely much lower than this. I suggest concentrating on the more important aspects of of your application (e.g., statement, writing sample). BuddingScholar
Atlantis
Definitely work on the non-math scores on the GRE. I had a near perfect score on verbal (99% percentile), but a horrid math score. The math score didn't hurt, but the verbal score surely impressed. So improve that instead. And yes, everything else seems more important, especially the writing sample and statement. They can't have enough pairs of eyes looking over them! And four, five, six rounds of editing. Or more.
