Enhancing Admission (2 vs 3 years, dual-degree?)

I've been working on my application to UT Austin as of late, and I was curious as to which would afford me a greater chance of admittance: a 2-year program or a 3-year program. UT gives you the opportunity to apply to 2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 year programs.

I'm also wondering whether or not applying to a dual-degree program (MSW/MPA) would enhance my opportunity for admission. One of my friends told me that a lot of schools see dual degree programs as cash cows, raking in almost double the money from students -- hence, they're more likely to accept dual degree applicants. I'm not sure how valid that is but that's what I've heard.

Any input is well appreciated! Thanks! :)

I don't know why a program would be more likely to accept a dual degree student- the department does not see the proceeds from your second degree track, and often has to make accommodations related to your choices in the other program.  Although the university may like the idea, the gatekeeper to admission is at the dept level, not the university level. Some programs offer a number of slots to each track, so you may be more likely to get in to a less-popular track. Perhaps the best way to maximize your opportunities around this is to apply to the track you want, and ask for consideration in one of the other tracks if you are not accepted to your preferred track.

Thanks for the info! That make sense.
