Greetings!

I hope someone here could help me evaluate my profile.

Undergrad Institution: Top #4 university in China
Major: Business
GPA: 3.6 (my school gives low gpa...)
Type of Student: female international

Graduate Institution: Claremont Graduate University

Major: Financial Engineering

GPA: 3.95

Type of Student: female international

GRE Revised General Test:
Q: 170 (98%)
V: 159 (81%)
W: 3.5 (35%) (It's strange, I feel my writing is very organised)

GRE Subject Test in Mathematics:
Not taken

Program Applying:

Statistics/Probability/Mathematical Finance

Research Experience:

Not very much. Only class projects.

Time series project and data analysis. Several quantitative risk evaluation projects.

Awards/Honors/Recognitions:

Top 2 ranking in class.

Pertinent Activities or Jobs:

TA for Probability, and probably Stochastic Process next semester.

Miscellaneous:

Of course there are some relevant courses in my undergrad (calculus, linear algebra, probability & statistics), but my undergrad major is nothing very "math", I am taking extra credits in my current master degree to make up for this. Don't know whether they are "enough".

(Real Analysis / Measure theory / some topology) -- PhD level needs this, right? And it is also foundation.

(Probability, Stochastic Process, Math Finance) -- all A or A+

(Statistics Theory, Time Series Analysis) -- all A or A+
(C++, R) -- familiar with R

(Discrete Mathematics) -- those proof techniques and combinatorics

I also have plans to take 3 more math courses the upcoming semester.

(Matrix Algebra)

(Numerical Methods)

(Non-parametric Analysis)

Applying to Where:

Preferable:

California ~~~ (lovely weather~~~)

UC Davis

UC San Diego

UC Santa Cruz

UC Irvine

UC Riverside

USC

Canada ~~~~

Toronto

Waterloo

Manitoba (know a professor there who likes me~~~ )

Also do you guys know any other safety schools? Like any good state universities

Concerns

I know international students have higher admission standards, but I have spent 1.5 years here in US. Does this affect any chances?

Also how do the admission committees evaluate female students? Nothing discriminating, just concerns.

I know it's hard to survive in PhD programs. I have plans to get PhD when I am still young and then work as counsellor in industry after graduation.

Any other advice is welcome

Your background is good but finance PhD programs will suit your preparation better. UC Santa barbara stat phd would also be a good fit. Or go to economics phd and study econometrics.

Thanks, yes, Santa Barbara has a PhD program with emphasis in financial mathematics.

I am not sure whether I qualify enough for the UC programs.

Do you know any other programs which would be safe for me.

Thanks.
