middl1at Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I'm graduating at the end of this school year ('13-'14) and am applying to grad schools. Because I didn't do as well on my GRE as I would have liked (155V & 149Q) I'm mostly applying to MA programs, but my long-term goal is PhD. I will have strong letters of recommendation and a strong CV as well as research, grading, and lecture experience during my undergrad and a good GPA (3.7). The only thing holding me down is my GRE score. I feel like I've hit a brick wall when it comes to my school search. I'm applying to The American University in Cairo, George Mason University, and the University of Arkansas and have a few others that I'm considering (Syracuse, Wayne State University, University of Colorado - Boulder). My research interests are the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, specifically inter-Arab relations in the Middle East regarding the conflict; and have recently gained interest in political economy. Does anyone have any suggestions on other schools I should look at? Thanks!
RCD2 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Current Syracuse student here. Although there is not a huge Middle East focus at Maxwell, there are definitely some people who you could work with. Look at the research of Miriam Elman and Mehrzad Boroujerdi. In general, I would not recommend getting an MA if you already know that your ultimate goal is a PhD. Not worth the money (schools usually do not fully fund MA students).
