FLAS problems

Does anyone have experience with the FLAS fellowship? The univerisity I would like to attend told me that I am on the "short list" for FLAS, but that none of the university area studies centers have received any money from the government yet. April 15th is approaching and I'm freaking out! A student at the school heard that no area studies centers at any university in America have received FLAS money yet. Could this possibly be true?

anybody else? i too am waiting to hear back about flas.... has anyone at any university heard anything back?

Yes, it is true that most of the area studies centers funded under Title VI have yet to recieve the money from the government. However, most centers have a general idea of about how much money they will get, and they dole out the fellowships based on that assumption. Most tend to low-ball it, and then try to add a fellowship or two later on.

Who out there is waiting to hear back on both admissions and FLAS? are these notifications made simultaneously? And, how competetive is FLAS funding?

I just heard today about a summer FLAS--so at least one school (UW-Madison) is making some FLAS decisions! But I don't know about academic year FLAS-es, and I haven't heard anything about the funding in general.
