az91
Hey all, I took the gre a few weeks ago and got a score of 160q 148v 3.5w. Im applying for a mechanical engineering masters program. Im planning to take the exam another time after 6 weeks. I need to significantly raise my scores on the 3 fields. Any advice on what I should do?? Im thinking of taking a course, but I'm not sure. Thank you all
umniah2013
Do as many practice tests as you can and you'll be able to raise your score. Good luck!
EgQ54
You can improve your performance on sentence equivalence and text completion questions by just memorizing a lot of vocabulary. Buy a deck of flashcards from Barron's or Manhattan Prep and memorize at least the 500 most frequent words. You can improve pretty quickly even if English isn't your native language since these questions have more to do with memorization than with comprehension. Reading comprehension is more difficult to improve. If you want to do it you should try "blind review" (Google it). Get a copy of the GMAT official guide for reading comprehension practice questions. GMAT passages are more straightforward than GRE passages and the reading comprehension questions are easier, but they're still good for practice. GMAT critical reasoning questions are very similar to the ones on the GRE. I've never done any quant prep myself but I've read that Manhattan Prep's material is pretty good.
