psyched_outt Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hi everyone, Small dilemma. I already submitted my apps with my updated CV to grad schools. Just got word from an old PI today that she submitted a paper to a big journal, and I'm an author on it. I already listed my two published second author papers, but I'd love to have this on there as well. Is it too late to change anything? If I do list this paper, do I list it as "In preparation" or "submitted"? Thanks for your help --
gellert Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) List it as "under review." When revisions come back, you can list it as "under revision" or "revise and resubmit." It's a faux pas to mention the journal at which the paper is under review, though. Wait until it's in press to name the journal. Edited December 4, 2013 by gellert
fuzzylogician Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 You can email the schools and ask to update the CV in your application. A submitted paper is a pretty big deal and most places will be happy to know about it. You can list it as "under review," as gellert says.
psyched_outt Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 Thank you to both of you - I appreciate the insight. I'll contact the programs and let them know.
Althonse Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I also have an issue with applications that I already submitted. My GPA is a 3.69, and I listed it as such on my applications. However I made a mistake and listed it as 3.7 on my CV. Do you think this will be a big deal for schools? I am applying to 12 and would prefer to avoid calling every one of them to make sure it's okay, but I will if people think it's necessary.
NoSleepTilBreuckelen Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Althonse, I would't worry about it - different applications ask for different decimal places for your GPA (I've definitely listed mine as 3.6 and 3.61 at different points this application cycle, just based of how many digits they ask for, and my transcript lists it out to 6 decimal places - haha!). I doubt they'll even notice the difference between the app and CV, but if they do, I don't think they see it as a material difference, simply as rounding.
gellert Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) Yeah, I put only one decimal place on all my apps unless more were requested, and rounded up/down. They have my transcripts which spell it out to 2-3 decimal places in case they're interested. My CV has to 3 decimal places. I figure it's not a big deal as GPA is relatively unimportant. Althonse Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Thanks NoSleepTilBreuckelen and gellert!! That's kinda what I figured too, but I am always worried that a mistake like that could be seen as being dishonest, or at least negligent.
