EnglishMA Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Hi all, It looks like I'll be going to MA program at UGA. They've given me RA funding (my only funded offer) and they seem genuinely enthusiastic about me going there. I'm an international student, so visiting the campus isn't possible. I was wondering if there are folks here who have gone to UGA (even if it was for undergrad, or in some other discipline) and can tell me about the place -- about the English dept or the university in general. As in, did you enjoy your time there? Is the dept friendly/supportive/etc.? I'd appreciate any input! Thanks
disjecta Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Congratulations! When did you hear from them? I've been waiting to hear back on my PhD application. So, it would be helpful to know if they're *just* now getting around to sending letters. Also, were you informed via e-mail or regular post? Okay... I have not attended UGA, but the Athens area is pretty nice. Definitely a college town feel. In the surrounding area there's some neat older architechture. I'm sure you'll like it. And Atlanta isn't that far of a hike, if you like the city. Best of luck and enjoy UGA
Jack Cade Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I hear tell that the aquarium has a wale shark... The airport is huge, and there seems to often be low lying cloud cover. It is a pretty part of the US. Sa'll I got.
EnglishMA Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 disjecta: I got an email from the grad school on March 5 saying that I had been accepted, and an email from the DGS on March 12 saying that I had got an RAship from the graduate school. However, I applied to the MA, not the PhD, so there might be a different timeline for evaluating PhD applications. Have you tried emailing the DGS to ask what's going on? Anyone else have any input on UGA? The Eng dept specifically or the university in general? Thanks.
