andrei.kostalov Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Dear friends, Who ever is reading this, please advice. I am an international student in US in a PhD program. I also did my MS in US. I have been 2 semesters in a PhD program in physics. I was a good student throughout my UG and MS but the PhD has been hell. I am unable to keep up with the 3.0 GPA, I was never in this situation before. I have worked very hard in coursework but can't get to the 3.0 anyhow. Now I am on the edge of losing my TAship. My adviser has no problems guiding my doctoral research (in which I have made some progress) but GPA has become a problem. I really can't self-fund myself. When I started my PhD, I felt like the current university wasn't the right one but I thought of it as an adjustment issue (tons of travelling) and thought maybe it will get better with time. But it hasn't. It has become more and more stressful financially/academically. Now I am thinking of getting out of here and finding a more suited university, making a new start but I don't have a clue if I should re-apply, try transferring or something else. Please reply. Thanks a million.

Lisa44201 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 It is very difficult to transfer at the graduate level, especially if the reason is because you're struggling with the program. Have you tried forming a study group? Talking to individual professors about what you need to do to improve your GPA in the specific classes?
