Hydralisk86
So basically, I'm thinking about going into graduate school, the problem is, i have no idea how to do the research to know what is best for me. For example, what graudate school would be best for me, the focus, etc. I am thinking about going into English, because I feel that's what I would enjoy doing, however, I want to be extra sure that that is what i want to do. Are there resources out there that could help me? I was thinking about doing some of those quizes that when finished tell you your personality, things you enjoy, what you're good at, etc. Basically, I really would appreciate the help on this. Thanks. Btw, i have a Bachelor of Arts, Sociology at the moment, so that info might be important right now...Thinking about doing Masters in English. Guest Gnome Chomsky
If I could offer very basic advice... maybe take a year off, get some kind of job, and envision what you'd like to do in the future, and go to grad school for that. Or, if you don't have patience, spend a few weeks or a month trying to envision what you'd like to do as a career. Then find out what degree you'd need for that career, and go to grad school for that. You get a master's for 2 reasons: 1) You have a certain career/job in mind that you'd like to do and you need a certain degree to do it. 2) You're really passionate about the subject and want to study it. You're less concerned about the job and really just want to study this subject. Usually if you're that passionate about the subject, you would go for the PhD. Typically people would do a master's because they aren't yet qualified for the PhD (i.e. lack of research experience, no publications, no writing sample, low GPA, low GRE, lack of good letters of recommendation).
