ghstx22 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) Hey everyone, This is just a classic "what do you think my chances are" post, so just tell me what you think. I am applying to PhD programs for political theory. As a note, I attended two undergraduate institutions as a dual degree student, receiving a BA and a BM at the respective institutions. GPA: 3.61 (BA)/3.60(BM) GRE (V/Q/W): 167(98%)/157(70%)/5.0 (97%) I have a good amount of research, including some funded research over the summer, have 3 solid recommendations, one of which came from my summer mentor who is tenured faculty at a top 25 undergraduate school. I have no publications in academic journals, but I am doing a senior thesis that is a continuation of my summer research and have a foreign language publication in a school journal. I'm sure there are many important things I am leaving out, but please ask if you are wondering. My interests are primarily in religion and politics, supranational governance, and democracy, as well as ethics and international politics. Let me know what else you might need to tell me what you think. The schools that I have applied to are: Yale, Columbia, NYU, Princeton, Brown, Duke, UChicago, Rutgers, CUNY Graduate Center. TheGnome Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Why are you doing this to yourself? Unless there is an incredibly serious red flag on your application, the only thing anyone can say is that you have a shot and that you need to wait and see. It is not like you are asking about what schools you need to consider, or what part of your application you can improve - you have already applied. The application season is over. There is nothing you can do anymore. You just have to wait and see. Obviously your numbers look fine enough to get you considered everywhere you apply. Other than that, maybe (hopefully) you will get into all of these schools, maybe none. Please don't get me wrong, I mean no offense whatsoever. Having gone through this process more than once, I understand - probably more than most - the need for even a tiny bit of security and certainty. However, it is nowhere to be found. Bear with us and join the gradcafe community. We will help each other out in soothing and controlling our anxiety. We will also share your good and bad news. However asking for your chances on January 9th, when you have no control over the process anymore, will not help you. Best of luck to you! Zahar Berkut, gradcafe26, TakeMyCoffeeBlack and 3 others 6
