CauchyProcess Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Just got a rejection from Princeton's ORFE. Not too disappointed with the result itself since it's expected given my non-Ivy-league background alone. On the other hand, I'm disappointed that I even applied there, as Princeton is one of two places that refused to waive my application fee. I could really use an extra hundred or so dollars right now..
clurp Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Does anyone know what Duke is up to? Haven't heard from them yet.
coffeehouse Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Seems like more Michigan rejections today... I still haven't got one. Anyone in the same boat as me still?
Portmanteaujam Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Seems like more Michigan rejections today... I still haven't got one. Anyone in the same boat as me still? Same here.
statisticsfall2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 On having not gotten a rejection from Michigan yet: ^^ Probably a good sign ^^
coffeehouse Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Seems like they sent at least one acceptance out today, I didn't get one. That's a bad sign LOL

CauchyProcess Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Just got a rejection from Brown, and an acceptance from SUNY Stony Brook with funding! I'm very excited as I now have the opportunity to live in New York!
Stat Assistant Professor Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Congrats CauchyProcess! Both the math and applied math depts at SUNY are well-regarded and have strong reputations (around top 20ish).
cyprusprior Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 Just got an acceptance from Michigan Biostats! It was a really nice phone call from one of the professors there. I'm looking forward to attending their open house.
StatPhD2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Just got a rejection from Brown, and an acceptance from SUNY Stony Brook with funding! I'm very excited as I now have the opportunity to live in New York! Stony Brook is pretty far from NYC
CauchyProcess Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Congrats CauchyProcess! Both the math and applied math depts at SUNY are well-regarded and have strong reputations (around top 20ish). Thanks! Their funding offer is quite small (17k) and includes TAing, I'll need to talk to the department to determine whether it's enough to live on in NY.
jewioru o Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Just got an acceptance from Michigan Biostats! It was a really nice phone call from one of the professors there. I'm looking forward to attending their open house. Congrats! I'm stilling waiting for their call... Did the professor anything about the acceptance rate?
mhnaomi Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Just got a rejection from Brown, and an acceptance from SUNY Stony Brook with funding! I'm very excited as I now have the opportunity to live in New York! When did you hear back from Brown? I'm still waiting to hear from them. Were you at their recruitment day?
CauchyProcess Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) Stony Brook is pretty far from NYC Yeah, but I imagine it's quite a difference from living in CA. When did you hear back from Brown? I'm still waiting to hear from them. Were you at their recruitment day? This morning, via email. This is for Brown Applied Math, not Biostats. I was not invited to a recruitment day. Edited February 18, 2014 by CauchyProcess
aridneptune Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I'm very excited as I now have the opportunity to live in New York! Listen I don't mean to burst your bubble, but living in NYC is expensive enough with a full-time six-figure job. On a stipend? I couldn't imagine doing it.
effhorses Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Not sure if anyone else here applied to Northwestern, but I received an email from the director of graduate studies asking to set up a phone interview.
mf161 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Listen I don't mean to burst your bubble, but living in NYC is expensive enough with a full-time six-figure job. On a stipend? I couldn't imagine doing it. The aforementioned stipend is enough to live in Stony Brook (I previously lived there). CauchyProcess: If you end up moving to Stony Brook for school, then I think it would be wise to check out any potential housing situations before agreeing to a contract. I lived in an on-campus housing unit that was very poorly maintained, and I saw several off-campus units that were in awful shape (the apartments I saw were being rented by international students, so they may have been taken advantage of).
clurp Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 (edited) It appears as though Rice sent out some acceptances today. Edited February 19, 2014 by clurp
Stat Assistant Professor Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I interviewed with RIce and they seemed to like my app, but I have not received any word from them yet... hopefully I will hear something soon. Congrats to those who were accepted! Congrats to Purdue admits too! That is a program I wish I had applied to.
clurp Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 From somebody's comment in Rice's results section, I gather than they have a couple rounds of offers.
Stat Assistant Professor Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Sounds good to me. Already having an offer from Florida takes some pressure off. The other schools I'm waiting to hear from (assuming rejection from Berkeley) are similarly ranked to UF, and UF has pretty good placement, so I will likely accept the UF offer if I'm waitlisted at any of those schools and/or if I have not heard back from them by the end of the month. If I get any more acceptances, I'll try to visit the departments and weigh my options.
effhorses Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Interesting, someone posted an acceptance to Columbia stat in results
StatPhD2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Interesting, someone posted an acceptance to Columbia stat in results Don't know if they are finished yet but they did start
coffeehouse Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Has anyone contacted Michigan or Chicago Statistics to see if they are done their offers? I am still waiting on both.
