Lelouch Lamperouge Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 haven't hear back from them yet... Wish you hear back from them soon!
Stat Assistant Professor Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Still nothing from Berkeley for me and no change of status on the website either. I have e-mailed them so I can get a definitive response. Has anyone else NOT heard anything from Berkeley? I also take it no one has heard anything from UCLA? Congrats on your acceptance, Lelouch Lamperouge!
effhorses Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Nothing from UCLA here; if you're curious you can check your application status at the following link: http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gasaa/admissions/applicat.htm Mine doesn't list a decision, just says "submitted." Stat Assistant Professor 1
statisticsfall2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Mine is also: "Submitted- Pending Decision" for UCLA.

Thanks. I think I've checked out this site before. But many depts send out informal acceptances before official letters from the grad school or before the website is updated, so I was still a bit curious. I'm sure some people will post UCLA results here if they hear back though.
coffeehouse Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Anyone attending Minnesota's visit date?
StatPhD2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Still nothing from Berkeley, maybe they lost my application
Stat Assistant Professor Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I haven't heard anything from Berkeley. I contacted the Graduate Student Services Advisor but I have not received any response. I'd rather receive an explicit rejection than an implicit one. Hopefully I'll get a response soon
CauchyProcess Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Just got a letter from SUNY Stony Brook informing me that I was awarded additional funding, bringing the total up to 23.4k. Not quite as good as UCSC's offer since it still includes TA duties, but is much, much better than 17k.
Stat Assistant Professor Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 That's great, CauchyProcess. Congrats! 23.4k is a lot better than a LOT of public universities. Outside of a few big name public universities and/or universities in very expensive cities (i.e. Los Angeles or NYC), most annual stipends for are under $20k.
Stat Assistant Professor Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) Here is another question... has anyone accepted offers yet and/or planned to accept them before (or without even) attending visit days? I see some people using phrases "dream school" on the results page. Edited February 22, 2014 by Stat Applicant
Kleene Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Here is another question... has anyone accepted offers yet and/or planned to accept them before (or without even) attending visit days? I see some people using phrases "dream school" on the results page. I am still waiting for one or two results, but I am very likely to accept an offer without visiting.
clurp Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) Somebody mentions in the results section that they are on the wait list for Rice. Is that one of you all? If so, were you notified, or did you inquire? Edited February 23, 2014 by clurp
muzili Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Since someone got waitlisted, is there any students who got offers from Rice?
clurp Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 There are two acceptances on the results page.
muzili Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Anyone knows about the statistics department at Northwestern? how's their PhD program?
Stat Assistant Professor Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Nothing from Rice for me. I e-mailed the dept to ask on Friday.
effhorses Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Anyone knows about the statistics department at Northwestern? how's their PhD program? My only experience is from applying, so I only know as much as they have on their website and what the director of admissions told me in a brief phone interview. It's a very small program; they have 10 faculty members, they accept only 4-6 PhD applicants per year and don't have a master's program. It seems fairly balanced in terms of faculty research, at least for a department of that size. I applied there because the research of Larry Hedges and Bruce Spencer sounded interesting to me. In terms of rankings, it's not particularly well-regarded; I haven't asked around to see how accurate that is.
muzili Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 effhorses, how long is your interview with Northwestern? Is the interviewer the director of graduate studies?
effhorses Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 effhorses, how long is your interview with Northwestern? Is the interviewer the director of graduate studies? It was a 10-minute phone conversation with the director of graduate studies. It wasn't a super-intense interview, just asked me why I applied to Northwestern and whether I had any research experience, then told me about Northwestern's program.
effhorses Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 thanks for sharing! i'm really nervous... Not a problem! The director also said to expect a decision sometime this week. The fact that you're getting an interview means you have a very good shot at being accepted. One other thing: I was asked whether I had any other offers. Based on the low-key nature of the interview, my guess is one of the main points of these calls is to gauge how likely it is their top choices will attend; that way they can figure out how many offers to make.
DoDream Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Since someone got waitlisted, is there any students who got offers from Rice? I got admission from Rice. Since I was a Rice master student, I got it without interview
Stat Assistant Professor Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Looks like UCLA sent out acceptances. Judging from past results, this does not appear to be a school that sends out waves of acceptances, but one that keeps a long waitlist in case not enough people accept offers. Heard nothing from them. I will probably reach out at the end of the month just to see where I stand.
coffeehouse Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I just got an email from Stern today. Anyone hear anything?
