Fellow applicants,

If you don't mind, I'd like your help with sociology-themed names for a male dog.

I adopted a dog today, and I will be picking him up tomorrow evening. He's a Pointer mix, with an all-white coat, except for a few brown spots, and his face is half-brown and half-white.

I've considered many names, including different Marvel superheroes (and villains) and early country blues musicians, but nothing sounds right yet.

So, please use your creativity and help me come up with a great sociology-themed name for my new dog.

Thank you!

Hmm, Karl Barx seems to obvious, and Minotaur (Gouldner's nickname for Max Weber) seems too obscure. Habermas, Ferdinand and Zygmunt, are good names for a dog, but not very punny. If you lean qual, maybe Fieldnote and quant, maybe Scatter, Random or Anova. Power/Knowledge is kind of clunky and I think Foucault, along with Talcott, are cats.

Well that was a fun vacation from worrying about decisions!  :)

Wow, all of these are great!

My favorite is Karl Barx, but I have a friend named Carl, so there's a possibility that Carl will feel disrespected (LOL), or that my dog will be confused (not good).

Durk, Doxa, and Simmel are good. I like R. E. Bark too, but it's kind of a mouthful. Similarly, my favorite sociologist is W. I. Thomas, but there's nothing there for a dog's name either.

I'm still deciding; I don't want to rush it. Dogs are intelligent and can learn a new name, so I'm not worried about it (I'm currently calling him Biscuit because I love biscuits, but he doesn't like it). This feels more difficult than making my list of schools.

I will let you know what I decide, but please know that he's very happy and healthy.
