WordlTraveler Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Hello! I have applied to Columbia (International Educational Development), Stanford (International Comparative Education) and Harvard (International Educational Policy). Still have to apply to UPenn. And now the waiting begins, I am curious where have people with similar interestes applied and how are you dealing with waiting anxiety?
NoChance Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Yay for international Ed masters applicants! We seem few and far between on this board. Maybe that's a good sign? Then again there are only a handful of programs out there for us. Anyway, I applied to Harvard IEP, Stanford ICE, and Penn IEDP. I basically picked every program that also offered a solid ed tech focus, as I'm aiming to be somewhere in between those two programs (more on the int'l ed side, since I already work in ed tech). I'm getting pretty anxious, but I've got plenty on my plate to keep me distracted.
Steelbacks1 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I have only applied to Harvard although I will apply to Cambridge next month.
bakalamba Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Are you all applying for the MA? I got a MA in Comparative Education at UCLA, and am applying for PhD in International Ed Development/Comparative Education at Stanford (SHIPS) and Harvard, but there are also great programs with faculty in my area (Sub-Saharan Africa) at University of Pittsburgh, Michigan State, U of Minnesota, and U of Wisconsin-Madison. Last year I only applied to top schools, but in a different field (Anthropology or Sociology) and didn't get in any. Learning the power of diversifying my options, as I hear many positive experiences working with dedicated faculty in great programs at lesser known schools. In graduate school, it's all about who you work with.
SophLove Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Hi there! Also applying for MA - UCLA, Stanford, Columbia.
TinOhSu Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Me too! I applied to masters programs at Harvard, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Penn, Minnesota, and GWU. Recently got accepted to Vanderbilt, so if anyone on this thread is attending the visiting days on Feb. 21/22, let me know!
leclark14 Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 I was admitted to the U.Penn IEDP program. I'm currently trying to decide between Penn, NYU-International Education and American-International Development. I also got accepted into Loyola Chicago's Cultural and Educational Policy Studies program, but that is more of a safety for me. I am still waiting to hear back from Vanderbilt for the IEPM and Teacher's College-IEDP. Can anyone speak to NYU's International Education program? It seems like a great program and the previous partnering organizations for internships are amazing. However I think most internships are domestic and with international education it is much more widespread, with everything from running study abroad programs to education development. I'm not sure how I feel about a program that is not hyper-focused on development. American seems great as well, but I currently live in Arlington and honestly some of my resistance to attend stems from staying in this area, for now. American also seems to be slightly more expensive than U. Penn. But can anyone speak to their international development program, specifically for education development? Also for tuition at U. Penn it is listed by number of course units, with grad. students maxing out at 5 per semester. I'm assuming that 1 course unit is one class, as the IEDP program is 10 courses over 1.5 years (including internship). Does anyone know if this is true?
leclark14 Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Also for those people who applied to IEDP at Columbia, what concentrations did you choose? I found the options a bit overwhelming and ended up picking curriculum and teaching. I would like to work with access to education and programs for OVCs. I'm not sure if this is actually the correct concentration for this.
