bgwc Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I was wondering if anyone had any information on this. I haven't seen UCI on any of the rankings lists posted, but feel there are some strong faculty members there, especially in my area of focus. Any information on how the UCI PhD program ranks compared to other programs would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
annie_lull Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Hate to be an obvious cop, but it all depends on the area you want to pursue. Also, since it's a Visual Studies program as opposed to traditional art history programs, the size of cohorts is probably small unless you're doing modern/contemporary. but in terms of employment, i don't think a UCI degree is bad especially if you want to stay in California. losemygrip Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Irvine does not have a PhD in art history, which is why you don't see it in the lists. As Annie notes, it's "Visual Studies." It's heavy on theory/criticism. Think University of Rochester. If that's what you want, go for it. If not, look elsewhere. staxdo_21 1
