emmett81390 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Does anyone know much about the UMASS-Amherst admissions process for social psych? Do they Interview candidates or just accept students? Is there a timeline for their decisions? They are one of my top choices so I'm kind of freaking out that I haven't heard anything yet.
iphi Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Given the Results Search, it seems as though they do phone interviews. Why don't you email (or call, that's somewhat more anonymous) the secretary and ask what their timeline is?
FinallyAccepted Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 On the website, it said we could request an interview with a faculty member we're interested in if we're NOT applying for the clinical program. I e-mailed my POI and the impression I got was that she hadn't finished looking through applications yet. Since the deadline was later than for other schools, I wouldn't freak out yet about not hearing anything.

I'm always hesitant to contact professors directly as I'm sure they're swamped with requests this time of year. Out of curiosity who is your POI?
glipsus Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Thanks. I'm always hesitant to contact professors directly as I'm sure they're swamped with requests this time of year. Out of curiosity who is your POI? I'm in the same boat - always think "(s)he will not answer anyway - there are toooooo many letters". On the website they write that "Because of the large number of applications received, it is impossible to grant an interview to every applicant who requests one. Departmental policy with regard to interviews varies with each area of specialization. For example, if you are applying to the clinical program and are in the final pool of 30-40 applicants, you will be invited for an interview. If you are applying to one of the non-clinical programs and desire an interview, you may directly contact one of the faculty in the relevant area of specialization. In general, an interview will be granted only after a completed application has been received and reviewed." So, I suppose that it's up to POI to decide, but you could ask for interview. As for me, I heard nothing from UMass.
humankoko Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Emailed my POI (Leidner) at U-Mass and he responded that they just finished reviewing applications and I will not be offered an interview. Good luck to everyone else!
FinallyAccepted Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Could any of the people posting info about UMass-Amherst interview invitations PM me your POI? Appreciate it.
