siggbottles Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Hi guys, I know that this is pretty much subjective and, in the end, I will have to make a decision based in whatever I believe is more relevant for my future. Meanwhile, may I ask your opinion? I was accepted to pursue my PhD in both my first options, NYU and Imperial College. I am a Brazilian pharmacist by training, doing a MSc in organic chemistry. My dream is to work as a drug discovery scientist in a pharma company. However, I am also thinking about academia and becoming a professor. Living in either NY and London would be amazing. NY has more sunny days and is easier to get cheaper flights to Brazil from there. London is an amazing city and Imperial is always among the 10 best universities in the world. Both are freaking expensive. In summary, both cities and universities have up and downsides and I am completely undecided.
siggbottles Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Both with funding, but I guess in NY I could get some extra funding and in London I would struggle to pay my bills.
warrming Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Also consider your prospective tutor and which city (country) you would like to find a job. I personally tend to go with ICL as it's quite lucky for international students to get funding in the UK and for its higher world ranking and reputation. Good luck!
