200682 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 GRE: 165 Verbal/ 164 Quantitative / 5.0 Writing GPA: 3.72 Major GPA: 3.85 Math Taken: Cal I, II; Linear Algebra, Multivariable Cal, Social Statistics Extracurriculars: president of political science honors society 2X all american in pre-law competitions over 2500 volunteer hours through undergrad economics publication through an Ivy League university journal lots of internship experience dealing with international trade, economics academic research fellowship in Washington DC financial modeling/Excel guru Spanish and (some) Mandarin Chinese I'm a political economy major, so my math is a bit weaker than most, but I'm wondering if I can make up for it by being "more well-rounded", as I am a strong writer, and can bring in a different perspective. I can do a solid amount of stuff in excel. Any advice or anything is appreciated! I'm looking at top 30 programs, but if that seems unreasonable, then any suggestions are welcome.
lzs Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I'm not in your field, but it seems all the economists say you need as much math as possible, like even most econ majors don't have enough math for econ grad school, and you especially need real analysis.
Admissions Advice Online Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Without a doubt, the best way to get into these programs is research. If you complete undergrad research, you will be very valuable to most top programs. Your GPA and GRE scores are in line with most top programs and the math courses that you have already taken show that you can handle the quant nature of the program. You also have varied experience. You just need to mix everything together for a powerful SOP and you should have no problem with admissions. -Admissions Advice Online 200682 1
