Ella Simmons Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I want to create a website to post my CV and academic papers eventually. Google Sites seems to be popular but I want a top-level domain. Do you have suggestions for domain name registration, hosting, and web design? Thanks!
Ella Simmons Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 What are your tech skills like? So-so.
Thompson Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 With confidence in your tech skills I'd recommend buying Bluehost's cheapest hosting package (usually comes with a discounted domain name - be aware though, domain name prices always go up in year 2), let it automatically load you a Wordpress site, and modify it from there. The HTML/CSS and PHP editing is pretty intuitive, and there are tons of great free Wordpress templates out there. With less confidence, I've heard great things about Squarespace, which is an all-in-one (hosting, web design, domain registrar), and allegedly has a drag and drop template builder.
AmericanQuant Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Markdown can be a quick and easy way to get an academic website up and running. With a nice CSS theme, it can look pretty nice too.
