rustonite Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 people who got into Illinois: please make up your minds! I just had an e-mail from the DGS, and only half of those they've admitted have made a decision- which means people on the waitlist (i.e., me) are still in limbo. It's absolutely killing me not to know what's up. thank you!
Rahbigabah Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Curious post. I trust you have been as polite and have notified Catholic, Saint Louis and LSU of your decision, thus allowing those on their respective wait-lists a shot at your spot.

Actually, I have notified LSU and Catholic. SLU is where I'm going if I don't get into Illinois. So everyone on their waitlist is also waiting for Illinois' accepted people to make up their minds. I'm sure it extends even further than that- they're probably waiting on somone at Ohio State, who's waiting on someone at Chicago, who's waiting on someone...it's like a horrible, stress inducing version of six degrees. There's probably a lynchpin somewhere, one future PhD who'll accept at Random State U at 4 pm on Wednesday and cause a waitlist cascade.
misterpat Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 You could always turn in your SLU decision late. I'm wait-listed for funding, and a DGS from one school told me (in response to when I might know if I have funding or not) that their deadline is the 15th, but that some students invariably turn in their decisions after that. You could be waiting for a while on UIUC though, so it might not be worth it. I guess you could always back out on SLU if that were to happen.
rustonite Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 SLU has been polite but firm about the deadline. They've given me an excellent package, and the faculty is amazing for my specialty (Thomas Madden and Walter Treadgold, freakin rockstars of medieval history) so I'm just fine with going there. I'm holding out hope for Illinois because it's my dream school- Ralph Mathisen is there, and they've got an incredible library. But if Wednesday comes and I'm going to St. Louis, that's fine. It's like being told that the Stones couldn't make it, so you'll have to party with Axl Rose- it's not better or worse, just different. (Insert your own musical idols.)
