I'm trying to decide between Penn and Cincinnati. I do mainly Roman archaeology, particularly housing and urbanism. Anyone have any thoughts about these two programs? I've done the pros and cons left and right but it isn't helping much- and I have to decide really soon!

Yeah that's the problem for me. they're both great programs with wonderful resources and reputations, so it's hard to judge based on that info- although I think ultimately Cincy may be the better fit.

I visited Cincy but not Penn, so unfortunately I don't have a real feel for the program, and for me that's key.

Cincinnati looks like it has a decent (Greek?) archaeology program (although it is a bit behind in other aspects of the field). If you really want to work with a specific person, then go there...otherwise, go to Penn. It is a top program, a nice campus, and philly is a great city.

Have you compared job placement for the two programs? That would be an important factor for me -- which schools are placing people and where they are placing people. And did you like Cincy? Remember, you're picking the place where you are going to live for the next 5-6 years, so pick a place where you will be happy. If you still can't decide, maybe call the DGS at both programs and see if they can help persuade you one way or the other.

Good luck with your decision, and let us know what you decide!
