Hello ppl~ I ve been here for a while, and after going through this horrible horrible process of waiting together, I am so happy for the ppl who got accepted!!!! As for me, I guess I am not that lucky, implied rejections from Stanford Connell NYU and Yale, and I also lost hope of the others. I think I might not be competitive enough and would consider a MA first. Can anybody helps with informations? I am interested into cultural studies and comparative literature, feminism, identity studies and creative writing. The thing is it is so late in the season and I think I would need founding. So please drop some information if you know:)) Also my verbal is only 147, they have to be forgiven on internatinal students:)) Thanks!!!

Hello Wendy,

It's great seeing your post here. I am from Taiwan, so I guess we are pretty much in the same situation. Actually I applied to 10 schools this year, including a few funded MA from both the US and Canada (but haven't heard from any of them yet...). These schools are: Indiana Bloomington MA/PhD, Illinois Urbana Champaign MA/PhD, University of British Columbia MA, Ohio State MA/PhD, and Georgetown MA. To be honest, funded MA are quite rare these days, and especially for international students like us. Also, I suggest you refer to the previous thread (there's a list of funded MA being discussed in the past) It's worth checking out!  :)

Hey! Wow, another Chinese applicant! Greetings! Thank you very much for the sharing, would definitely check them out as soon as possible! Now I think I would also take a MA if schools like NYU would offer me one. But just in case I would continue applying to some schools. I hope the deadlines are still not passed? Otherwise I would consider it this fall if I am unlucky:)

There are tons of funded MAs, but most are at big state universities in the middle of the country:. Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Ohio U, Kentucky, etc. And these are good programs, too! You can learn a ton from the faculty at any of these institutions. I would recommend really looking into them. Just go poking around on their websites for more info.

hey, thank you very much! Just wrote to California State! Their ddl is 01.03. Do u know if it is good?

Since 3 of my cousins are doing graduate studies in the middle of the country, that would be no problem! But I have to say I so dream of New York lol!

Oregon State University has a fully-funded MA in literature and the same deal in rhet/comp.  It also has a fully-funded MFA program.  The program is small but contains some great professors and offers opportunities to teach undergraduates.  Check out the following link if you are interested:

Thank you! It seems like a great program, only the deadline has passed :o

Do you know any schools with spring admission? That would also work

Check out Villanova and Cal State - Fullerton. Both have March 1 deadlines. I believe SUNY Albany (or stony brook?) has a spring date as well.

Both University of Delaware and University of Connecticut have funded MA programs. They don't have spring deadlines though-- both are Dec. 1. for fall.

Thank you very much, I will do that today. I hope they won't ask me to evaluate my foreign degree. That cost a lot of time and money.

Went to Villanova for undergrad... I took classes with a few of the professors who teach in the MA program and they are great. Extremely supportive people and great teachers/scholars. I would definitely recommend the program 100%. If you have any questions or anything please feel free to PM me.

I applied to the University of British Columbia (UBC) not expecting any sort of funding, but I have been offered a $9000 scholarship with the promise of more...so it's always worth applying places I think and then seeing if they offer funding. I've also seen people getting into McGill with some funding also. Toronto not so much it seems. Plus there's the strong likelihood of getting a TAship/RA ship at UBC at least.
