Caltech Culture (Physics)

I'm considering a few different schools at the moment and am wondering if anyone has anything to say about the department culture at Caltech. Friendly, competitive, workaholic...? Of course visiting later next month will help clarify this for me but I'm interested to see what anyone here has to say. Thank you!

I recently saw a Blog entry about the differences in culture of Caltech and Stanford. I'll see if i can find it again, it was quite amusing ;-)
