doingthings Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Has anyone else who submitted an application to the SNRE not heard back? I called admissions and they were unable to help me. I also haven't had any updates on my wolverineaccess.
Etownenviro Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 (edited) I actually found out I was admitted when my concentration (Environmental Informatics) supervisor sent out a mass email congratulating accepted students and then a few hours later I got an email from the school officially admitting me and telling me financial aid info was going to be coming in March. I haven't checked my wolverineaccess account to see if anything has changed. Edited February 27, 2014 by Etownenviro

rahul188 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Haven't heard back yet either. Had applied for a PhD. Any new updates from your end?
Etownenviro Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I applied to the masters program at the beginning of November so that could be why I have heard back from SNRE so early. People in past years seem to have heard back from SNRE during the first week of March but I have no official information on that since gradcafe isn't really a great sample size for environmental science/environmental management programs.
memmma Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I heard back about the masters program on Feb 18 via email, then received funding and advising information a few days ago by mail.
doingthings Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 I should have clarified, but I applied to the Master's. I finished my application a couple days before Jan 5, so perhaps I'll hear back later. :T
calenergy Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I also heard back from the Masters program around the 18th, and received funding information later in the mail. Since the initial email from SNRE, I received separate communications a few days later from Rackham (Graduate Division for most of University of Michigan I believe) and the head of the concentration within SNRE... so it's possible that it takes a few days for admissions decisions to go through the bureaucracy and pass on to the applicant. Best of luck!
gradstudent2014-15 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Haven't heard back yet. Applied for PhD. Was told earlier that the faculty is expected to decide by late February. No update on wolverine access either. Any updates elsewhere?
Etownenviro Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 At least for masters program you can find this graph of when SNRE acceptances went out over the last couple of years and basically it looks like they start giving acceptances in mid Feb and then continue through mid March with the last acceptances going out on like March 18th-ish. It looks like they are on the same general timeline as the other MEM programs. Good luck!!! Acceptances should still be on their way! doingthings 1
gradstudent2014-15 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 @Etownenviro-Thanks! I hope there is good news waiting..good luck to you too!
Etownenviro Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 No problem, I know this is really stressful since I am still waiting to hear back from a school. Here is the chart I was talking about it also includes into on UCSB. They also talk about funding and things like that in the thread if that is of interest to you.

I've also phoned and was told that they still have a few more decisions left and that we should hear back by the third week of March.
Etownenviro Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I apparently got received an academic leadership fellowship from SNRE for $15k. Does anyone have any information about this fellowship? I don't have access to my mail right now and learned about it in an email from a professor personally congratulating me. I'm just curious if it comes with any strings and if renewed annually or is it a one time award? Thanks!!! Hope you have heard positively back from Michigan by now! dkumar 1
adithedevil23 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I have been admitted to the UMich SNRE with a focus on sustainable systems. Anyone have any idea on what is the possibility of securing additional funding since tuition is so expensive..... dkumar and doingthings 2
gradstudent2014-15 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 @Etownenviro Congratulations! I didn't make it into SNRE. My POI replied to my mail a couple of days ago. Surprisingly, no official mail from Rackham or SNRE. Disappointed! But anyway, got into Arizona State. So, look like that's where am going! I have no idea about the fellowship. You should probably asking your professor directly. Anyway, congratulations again and good luck!
doingthings Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 I'm surprised they didn't update your wolverineaccess if you were rejected... Now I'm wondering if I should email my POI too.
gradstudent2014-15 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Yes, I was surprised too, 'coz just about last week when I called the grad committee, they said it would take another couple of weeks for the decisions to be out. I also wrote to my POI around the same time and she replied a couple of days ago that decisions have just been taken and I haven't been admitted. So, I am guessing they will update the wolverine account eventually after mailing the acceptance letters first. So, there is still hope for you! Good luck!
Etownenviro Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 thanks! I'm really excited but it is so expensive I'm not sure how I will afford it. I received some really generous offers from other top environmental schools and I am considering trying to negotiate if after the admitted students weekend I still think SNRE is my first choice.
adithedevil23 Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 @Etownenviro, could you post your review of the admitted students day. I am currently deciding between Berkeley MDP and Michigan SNRE so any inputs would be very helpful, particularly in terms of negotiating further financial aid if possible
Etownenviro Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I will! The admitted students day isn't until the 28th so hopefully you don't need to decide before that. I actually almost went there for undergrad and I love the campus! It's gorgeous and looks like the idea college campus. They have great sports and everyone has a ton of Michigan pride. There are lots of great places to eat in Ann Arbor and plenty to do. I will post a program specific review of SNRE but it is a great place to go to school although nor-cal has better weather...

They mailed me and awarded 3k usd. i asked them via email abt further oppurtunities.

If I'm remembering correctly, $10k is a straight scholarship while the other $5k is to support research with your advisor and other academic opportunities. As far as I know it's a one-time thing.
adithedevil23 Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 What was your general sense about the SNRE program as compared to the one at Bren. I am unable to decide between the two because Bren gave me more funding while the program at SNRE looks more attractive. Any inputs on that?
