Rzmac Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Hey everyone!!! I am really struggling with this decision. I am coming from an online school and I am about to graduate with my BA in Psychology. I have really been looking into Alliant (Irvine campus) or The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I am not sure of other programs that are starting soon other than those too. I am a Military wife, so I need something that starts sooner than later as we may be moving within the next two to three years. I have not taken my GRE's and I am not sure that I want to. I was really drawn to these schools because they do not require the GRE. I want to here some pro's and con's to the schools, and I would love any advice anyone is willing to give me! I am so nervous because both schools are crazy expensive and I am not sure if that is standard or not for Grad school. HELP!! Would you recommend a different school? What are the thoughts on these schools?? Edited March 6, 2014 by Rzmac
schpsy92 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 A major con is that Alliant and Chicago School are professional schools that are often really expensive and have big cohort sizes (so you won't get as much individualized attention in your program). It would probably be better to just take the GRE and apply to an in-state public school Quant_Liz_Lemon 1
HermoineG Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) They are not accredited. Just google about Chicago school and you'll learn their reality. Edited March 9, 2014 by PsychChick
hj2012 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Professional schools like Alliant offer are extremely expensive, and usually do not have very high placement rates for their graduates. What kind of degree are you interested in, and what is your eventual career goal? (e.g. school counselor, university professor, clinical psychologist, etc.) There may be more affordable universities (that also offer better job outcomes) at in-state universities.
inatcup Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I was just accepted to Alliant's Couple and Family Therapy Master's Program in San Francisco. During my interview with the program director, it seemed really legitimate, but It has been really hard to find honest information about the school. Some say it is an expensive diploma mill with a questionable reputation, and some say its a quality accredited program. So I'm pretty confused about the legitimacy of this program as well. Does anyone have any information from reputable sources?
inatcup Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Also, Bzmac, here is a list of accredited MFT programs in California, hope this helps. There are some that don't require the GRE. http://www.bbs.ca.gov/app-reg/mft_schools.shtml
Mariposa52 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Let me know how you like Alliant. I am also looking into applying there but have been unsure of the legitimacy of the program. I would be very interested to know how you like it, where some of thier graduates are getting jobs and that sort of thing! Edited April 14, 2015 by Mariposa52
