MongooseMayhem Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 WashU is flying me out to visit on the 20th, but I have already decided that I will be accepting their offer. Would it be appropriate to accept their offer before visiting? I was genuinely waiting for other offers when I said I would visit, but I don't want them to feel like they wasted a plane ticket on someone who has already decided to go there. Are any of these concerns reasonable?
Cottagecheeseman Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Yo, Accept the offer while visiting! You can make it all dramatic and go "Man you guys impressed me I'm accepting your offer lets get dirty in some philosophy of mind right now". Structural_Realist and ProspectiveGradStudent 2
PhiPhiPhi Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I did it. You could use the time to look at possible places to live, which is always difficult.
MattDest Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I went and visited Arizona even though I was relatively certain I would be accepting their offer. I'm glad I did, too, as they offered me an additional fellowship for no teaching duties for a semester during the first year to "sweeten" the deal. Plus, you should totally come hang out with the WashU faculty. They are awesome.
Establishment Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 It will also be a good time, I would imagine, to meet who will be your fellow admitted grad students. If you miss out now, you'll be a little bit behind compared to the others.
MongooseMayhem Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 To clarify, I will definitely be visiting; I was just wondering whether or not I should accept now or later.
