Fulfilling pre-requisite courses this summer (online from Europe or in Boston area in July/August)

Hi all,

I have 3 pre-reqs that I need to do this summer:

*Aural Rehabilitation (planning on taking this at BU's second summer session)

*Audiology (maybe taking this at Emerson's second summer session?)

*Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism

I think I can take Aural Rehab at BU's second summer session and Audiology at Emerson's second summer session. This just leaves Anatomy and Physiology. However, I'm in a bit of a strange situation that is making completing pre-reqs more complicated than I thought it would be:

I'm currently abroad in France teaching English, and I don't return to the U.S. until the end of June. This leaves out most full-session in-person courses. Does anyone know of any Boston area schools that offer Anatomy/Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism in July/August? Has anyone ever taken the course online? I can start taking an online course while I'm in Europe... but I asked one program (SUNY New Paltz) if this would be possible and they said it may not be because the course requires the use of proctored sites.

Anyone know of abroad-friendly Anatomy/Physiology of Speech/Hearing Mechanism online courses this summer? Has anyone here ever taken online courses while living outside the U.S.? Starting to stress out about this... any advice is welcome! :)

Hi,

I'm kind of in the same boat, but fortunately, I'm one step ahead.

I'm also in Europe and will be heading to Boston in the fall. For my pre-reqs, I'm taking all of them via Utah State University Online. It's really great so far. They offer the classes you need as well.

As far as proctoring goes, I went to the Fulbright commission. I'm not sure where in France you are, but if you're in Paris, that should be relatively easy to find someone. The alternative is to find a professor or high school teacher. What happens is that you first find someone who is willing to proctor, then you send that contact to the proctor approval at USU, and then you wait a couple of days (maybe less) until the USU person agrees on the selected proctor.

Let me know if you need any more help

I have a friend taking a full load of classes online from Utah State University and she lives in Ireland.  She hasn't had a problem.  I think the biggest thing is making sure you have a place that can proctor tests for you.  USU's anatomy class requires five proctored tests.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! Okay, so sounds like as long as I have someone to proctor for me, I should be fine? The only issue I've found with the Utah State classes is that they start in early May, and I have commitments/will be traveling until the last week of May. But maybe I can convince the class I found that starts in late May to let me take their online course from Europe (they initially were unsure because they said they've never set up proctored sites abroad... but if others have done it before, I don't see why it would be a problem?)

You could try ProctorU.com for the proctoring.  I'm doing a postbacc through USU and that's what I use for all my exams.  It can get a little pricey ($25-$30 each), but it's worth it for me.
