wonderv Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I got accepted into 2 of the schools I've applied to, and I'm still waiting to hear on the rest. However, the reply deadline for one of them is April 1, and the other April 15. I doubt I'd hear back from the remaining school by then. What's the etiquette about asking for a reply-deadline extension? Thanks!
Porshyen Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I just want to start by saying that, unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you. But I do have a similar question. I have to accept or decline an offer of admission by April 15th and was wait listed for funding. In the wait list email, they said I likely won't know until after April 15th. Funding is really the deciding factor as I would not be able to go without it and am not willing to take on more loans. This is for a Master's program. What is the protocol on that?

What's the etiquette about asking for a reply-deadline extension? Thanks! Congratulations on your acceptances. I have found that you can generally get deadline extensions fairly easily -- as long as you're looking for a couple days, maybe a week. Anything more can prove to put a kink in their process although they may be willing to allow that if they are particularly interested in you. That being said, it can't hurt to ask. Let them know that you are considering other offers and that you would appreciate the extra time. Worst case scenario, they will say no.

wonderv Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I emailed the admission advisor and got a 2-week extension. They were really cool and understanding about it.
