Alderman Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Hello, Seeking some advice. I've been accepted to both Oxford and LSE for a doctorate in international development. I've been extremely fortunate to secure funding for both (a Clarendon for the former and a PhD Studentship for the latter). Both are great schools, but a decision has to be made at some point. I'm wondering if anyone has any perspective on this? From what I know now, here are some of the differences: - 3 years at Oxford, 4 years at LSE - No required teaching at Oxford (but available, if desired), teaching expected at LSE Otherwise, they appear to have more in common than not. Can anyone add any insight to this? Personal experiences, rumours and random impressions are more than welcome! Thanks!
Ungjaevel Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I'll repost from another thread: My wife got her DPhil at Oxford and was disappointed. Little contact with her adviser and almost no teaching experience. She said that it prepared her for producing extremely obscure academia and not much else. That being said, Clarendon scholarships are absurdly prestigious, so that might be worth something in and of itself.
