nathancotephoto Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 If you know of a school or got accepted by a school with great funding please let me know for round 2 of applications next fall. Im really excited about reapplying because this time...it wont be down to the last week filling applications and writing letters. Id like to also know which private schools offer funding. I assume there are many state schools that do but i only know of a few. thanks in advance.
sunjingfang Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Nathan, as I know, most Universities have funding and Ta to assist graduate students to study Fine Arts or Studio Art. I saw your photos via flickr, I have no idea if you want to go to Art Schools, I think most your works were inspired by commercial style (I mean Visual rendering), try some schools like New Mexico U, Tulane, WashU, UNLV,wvu, ohio u ETC, I am sure they have best funding for every graduate student. http://www.mfadirectory.com/main.htm try this online based resource for Photo MFA programs, you can refer most schools' web link and info. Good luck for your Round 2, BTW, why don't you go abroad for couple of months to take a rest and take documentary photos. I will present my photos when i traveled at Tibet five years ago at one Fine Arts School in Asia this summer. I have wonderful life experience when I been there, and I used Fuji S3 pro and Fuji film camera, no PS, I mean original( not picture, the nature and the life). Now, I have a new camera Pentax 20D, but I don't have time to take more photos, so, consider what I siad.
nathancotephoto Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 thanks for the post. I'm working on updating my portfolio on flickr. All I'm really looking for is a school who will offer some funding, maybe a TA position or scholarship. I was planning on applying to UNLV and WashUÂ for sure. I havent looked into a few of the others you mentioned. Im going to be slowly looking all year. I can travel very easily(i live in north dakota and flying is expensive) so i will only be able to visit a couple schools.
Joel418 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Hi there Nathan! Although I don't know exactly what you mean by "great" funding... I've been accepted to Brandeis U (Boston), who offered really great funding (tuition, health care, and a very strong stipend as part of their fellowship package). Other schools that I applied to that offered great funding are Berkeley, Cornell, and UNC-Chapel Hill. Of course, sometimes this will vary from department to department, so go and check it out (almost all schools offer info on financial awards and their ranges on the website). Best of luck next year! Joel
nathancotephoto Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 well good funding would be lets say cover 70% of tuition and great would be 100%
Joel418 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 If you're only looking for a tuition waiver, I would say that their availability is the rule rather than the exception (of course, not all accepted students get them, but financial awards almost always include some tuition reduction). I don't know about photography, but in music awards usually swing between "no financial assistance VS. tuition waiver + $X stipend". Of course, the more successful the program, the more money private organizations and alumni have contributed to the scholarship funds, so.... Also, as you are able, don't hesitate to contact current students at the various programs. As rosy as the school's official policy may sound, the reality can be quite different! At one of the schools to which I was accepted, more than one student warned me about the high rate of disappearing funding during the second and third year of the program
