rachelsaraw Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I'm going to be entering my senior year of Communication Science & Disorders at WCUPA in the Fall of 2014 so I need to figure out what i'm going to do in terms of grad school! I'd like to go to a university in an English- speaking country abroad and I was wondering if anyone has ever done this that could help me find more information, provide resources and/ or advice about your experiences! Any information and help is appreciated -Rachel
Papaya91 Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) You should go to ASHA's website and look up the Mutual Recognition Agreement. It's an agreement between the US, the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand (I think I got those right?). I'm not exactly sure what the requirements are, but there's a lot of info on there! I'd like to possibly work abroad someday, too. Edit: Here. http://www.asha.org/Certification/Mutual-Recognition-Agreement-FAQs--General-Information/ Edited April 21, 2014 by Papaya91
ImHis Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) I would thoroughly research the programs that are members of the MRA. Verify if they offer at least 375 hours so you can meet the requirements for ASHA certification. The University of Sydney's admissons told me they offer only 180-190 hours. The rest, you'd have to make up as post-graduate employment for 6 months. You'd still have to complete the Praxis and your CFY. You can by-pass the CFY IF you are in good standing under the RCSLT, SPA, IASLT, CASLPA or NZSLT for 1 year and that usually means finding full-time employment. Edited April 21, 2014 by Patont
